Carto Walkthrough – Chapter 6

Chapter 6

Your first goal here is to head to the Story Chalet. Connect to your section of the map and go there. After you enter and meet Shianan, your next goal is to find the Volcano Wing of the Story Chalet.

Read the book “Horror at the Story Chalet” (found in the Typewriter Room), and you’ll learn about a room with no floor signs, which had rooms above and below it that also had no floor signs.

To solve this puzzle, you need to place the Entrance away from the other rooms, and place the other three rooms so that they connect coherently (i.e. you can access one room above and below the Typewriter Room). Check the screenshot below for reference.

Once you get it right, two new rooms will appear, one to each side of the Typewriter Room. One of these is the Volcano Room so head there (although feel free to explore the books in the other room too!).

Shianan will inform you of the way to get to the volcano. Once you’re ready, connect the Entrance room and head out of the Story Chalet.

Head north from the Story Chalet to find a tunnel. Head in.

On the other side, go north again and talk to the Messenger here. Head on deeper into the forest and over to the Mother Tree. On this large piece, find the tree with the hole in it, where one of the Messengers awaits with his bird. Talk to him and he’ll inform you to go to the Northeast of the Mother Tree.

Do as he says: run into the deep forest to the Northeast of the Mother Tree and you’ll find a piece of the map hidden there. Grab it when you see it.

Connect the new map piece and go there to meet Chirb again. Talk to him to get a clue for how to reach the volcano.

Bring up the map after talking to him and look for a tree with a hole in it that happens to ‘flash’ with squiggly lines every other second. Go to this piece.

Examine the back of the tree (don’t try to enter it, it won’t work just yet). You’ll need to find someone very strong to move the heavy branches.

Open up your map and note where the campfire piece is, then go there. (Remember to connect it if you need to). Here, you’ll find a familiar bear. Talk to him and you’ll return to the tree and head inside.

Here, arrange the piece with the brown hole to your current piece (if needed – for me, it was already connected). Head into the hole and you’ll find yourself in the depths.

Connect the map pieces here so that you can access the piece with the lit torch. Pick up the torch and use it to light every single unlit torch in the four tunnel pieces. There are nine in all, plus the torch you’re holding, which must be returned to the scone you found it in.

Bring up the map after you’re done and confirm you have ten lit torches. Now return to the piece of the map that has just one torch on it, and examine the stone carving next to the torch.

The instruction is to connect the pieces in the order 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. As you only have four pieces, you can only do the first four and wait for the fifth to appear.

So place the pieces based on the number of torches they have on them. Have a look at the map below for reference.

If you get it right, a fifth map piece will appear with five torches and a hole. Head into the hole to go to the next chapter of Carto.
