Cyber Shadow is the next game (to be published) by Shovel Knight devs

Sekiro who? The only ninja we’re talking about today is in the 8-bit action platformer Cyber Shadow, which is being published by the devs of Shovel Knight.

It seems Yacht Club Games, the developers of Shovel Knight, are joining the indie publisher cohort. Their latest announcement is Cyber Shadow, which comes from solo developer Aarne “MekaSkull” Hunziker (who operates as Mechanical Head Studios). And yes indeed, it appears to be full of authentic 8-bit action.

Here’s the game’s description, straight from the pub:

The world has been taken over by synthetic lifeforms. A desperate plea for help sets Shadow on a journey to uncover what started the path to perpetual ruin. Slash through the techno hordes, leap past traps, and nimbly navigate the ruins of Mekacity.

Ninjas! Clans! Sci-fi synthetic lifeforms! Inexplicably physics-defying combat abilities! Cyber Shadow seems to have it all. Of course, a game like this is best seen in action, so here’s how it looks like when it’s moving:

There’s no release date (or even a release year) for Cyber Shadow at the moment, but we know that the game will be available on Steam, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch. It’s unclear what platforms will be supported on Steam, but Shovel Knight was available across the usual trio of PC, Mac, and Linux. Perhaps this one will follow suit?

Apart from publishing Cyber Shadow, Yacht Club Games is also working on the final expansions for Shovel Knight, titled King of Cards and Showdown. These were expected to release in April this year, but have been delayed “by several months”.

Have a look at the rhythmic action of Cadence of Hyrule, which blends Crypt of the NecroDancer with The Legend of Zelda. Speaking of classic-style difficulty, have a look at Cuphead, which is coming soon to the Switch.
