2022 Into Indie Games Awards

We’ve picked out some of the finest games that came out this year for the 2022 Into Indie Games Awards. Here’s the winners!

2022 has put out dozens of memorable indie titles, and any awards list for the year is going to merely scratch the surface of all the great experiences there have been on offer.

With that in mind, we’ve highlighted a few games that we think made the biggest mark in their respective ways. Have a look below at the 2022 Into Indie Games Awards!

Best Original Concept – Immortality (Sam Barlow)

Best Original Concept Award 2022

The Best Original Concept award is for – well, this one’s not hard to guess – for the most original concept we’ve seen expressed in video games this year.

It’s perhaps not that surprising that it’s been bagged by Sam Barlow’s Immortality – an interactive movie trilogy that’s played by observing movie clips that you can traverse by selecting objects and persons.

Most Visionary Developer – Jump Over The Age

Most Visionary Developer Award 2022

The Most Visionary Developer Award is being given to the developer making games that push boundaries and pave the way for the future.

Our winner here is Jump Over The Age, the solo developer project led by Gareth Damian Martin. Martin debuted with 2020’s In Other Waters, an exploration adventure about alien biology.

Their sophomore title, Citizen Sleeper, explores interplanetary capitalism through a heavily tabletop RPG-inspired lens. We can’t wait to see where they goes next.

Best Game You Haven’t Heard Of – The Excavation of Hob’s Barrow

Best Game You Haven't Heard Of Into Indie Games Awards 2022

The Best Game You Haven’t Heard Of is for games that you probably have heard of, but that could still use the boost.

Our pick is The Excavation of Hob’s Barrow, which is a folk horror point-and-click adventure game developed by Cloak and Dagger Games and published by Wadjet Eye Games.

With its darkly foreboding atmosphere, compelling horror-mystery storytelling, and old-school charm, the game has flown far under the radar than it should. Here’s hoping it (and point-and-clicks in general) make a comeback!

Best Game By A Solo Developer – Citizen Sleeper

Best Game by a Solo Developer Into Indie Games Awards 2022

Gareth Damian Martin’s Jump Over the Age also wins the award for Best Game by a Solo Developer.

Citizen Sleeper would be an impressive game in its own right given refined writing, its breathtakingly detailed world, and its tabletop-inspired flexibility.

To think that it was made by a one-person developer boggles the mind. Baggles an award, even.

Game Changer Award – Neon White

Game Changer Award 2022

The Game Changer Award goes out to the game that brought us a new twist on a familiar concept.

We’re giving this one to Neon White, developed by Angel Matrix and published by Annapurna Interactive. On paper, Neon White sounds like a bizarre menagerie of concepts that have never been brought together – speedrunning, first-person shooting, parkour, visual novels, and even card-based gameplay? And yet, in practice, it all works. It works really, really well, even.

Best Game For Everyone – Tinykin

Best Game for Everyone 2022

The Best Game for Everyone Award goes out to the indie game that’s fun for everyone, no matter their age or background.

Our winner for this category is Splashteam’s Tinykin, published by tinyBuild. Bright, colorful, inventive, and relentlessly funny, we think that Tinykin will appeal to you regardless of how old you are and indeed, how big or small you are.
