Indie games are now one of the main talking points in the industry, especially alongside the outstanding hype surrounding GTA 6, which was widely expected. Even with GTA 6 on the horizon, many players are still actively looking for the best indie games to experience.
In April, a large number of games were released, and many of them were indie titles. With so many releases, it can be difficult to decide which ones stand out as the best. So, in this list, I will highlight some of the best indie games released in April 2026.

This is not a ranking of the games mentioned below. I am not ranking them in any order, as this is simply a list of games that I believe are the best ones released in April. You may have already played some of the games on this list, but that is most likely not the case for everyone. Due to that, the list is completely based on my own experience and knowledge of the indie games released in April 2026.

The Occultist
In this game, you play as Alan Rebels, a paranormal investigator. His father went missing while investigating supernatural occurrences, and one day Alan receives clues that point him toward Godstone Island. To uncover what happened to his father and understand the strange events taking place on the island, he decides to travel there.
The gameplay is not like traditional action horror games. In The Occultist, the main focus is exploration. You will explore abandoned buildings and underground passages, solve environmental puzzles, and use a mystical pendulum to interact with supernatural phenomena.
This pendulum is your primary tool, allowing you not only to reveal hidden objects but also to activate ancient mechanisms. It also helps you understand supernatural events tied to the island itself.
Do note that the game does not rely on jump scares. Instead, it focuses on psychological tension. The horror elements come from hallucinations, strange whispers, and dark, unsettling environments. If this sounds like a game you would enjoy, I highly recommended giving it a shot.

Replaced
Replaced, one of the best indie games released in April 2026, is a 2.5D cyberpunk action game set in an alternate 1980s America following a nuclear catastrophe. The world is controlled by a powerful megacorporation known as Phoenix Corporation.
In this game, you play as an advanced artificial intelligence. After a failed experiment, R.E.A.C.H., the protagonist, becomes trapped inside the body of its creator. As a result, the AI is forced to experience life as a human for the first time, including pain, emotions, and fear.

Inkonbini is a cozy, narrative-driven simulation game where you work part-time at a convenience store in Japan. At the start of the game, it feels like a typical job simulator where you simply restock shelves, clean up the store, and serve customers as they come in.
However, as you progress further, the game gradually shifts its focus toward the people who visit the store every day. Each customer who appears has their own personality, background, and personal struggles. Through repeated visits and conversations, you begin to learn more about them over time.
You start uncovering details about their lives, relationships, and what is troubling them. The store slowly becomes a central meeting point for multiple overlapping stories, which forms the core theme of the game.
The gameplay is intentionally minimal and calming. The simplicity of the mechanics is deliberate, allowing you to focus more on the storytelling and emotional progression rather than complex systems or challenges. While the pacing is slow, it creates a reflective and immersive experience that many players find rewarding.

Mouse: P.I. For Hire
One of the best indie games of 2026 is Mouse: P.I. For Hire. It is a first-person shooter that combines the classic boomer shooter formula with detective noir storytelling. Regarding the gameplay, the first-person shooter action really kicks in because it is incredibly fast-paced. That is because the combat in this game is heavily inspired by classics like Doom. Other than that, you also have to explore the world using new gadgets and abilities. Since it is a detective game, you have to gather clues, question characters, and solve cases as you progress through the story.
It does so many things, and all of them come together remarkably well. Every gameplay mechanic complements the others, making the overall experience feel cohesive and rewarding from beginning to end. Pragmata
Pragmata is a sci-fi action-adventure game set in a distant future where humanity relies heavily on advanced artificial intelligence. You play as an astronaut who becomes stranded alongside a mysterious android girl with a human-like presence and personality.
The gameplay blends combat, exploration, and puzzle-solving. A key feature is the dual-character system: the astronaut handles direct action and combat situations, while the android assists by hacking systems, unlocking pathways, and interacting with the environment in ways a human normally cannot.

Saros
Another AAA game released in April 2026 is Saros. If you are a fan of Returnal, then this is a game worth trying.
Saros is a third-person sci-fi action roguelike developed by the studio behind Returnal, Housemarque. In this game, you play as Arjun Devraj, a highly trained Soltari Enforcer.
He is sent to investigate what happened to a lost colony, but the mission quickly goes wrong as the planet becomes unstable and hostile. As a roguelike, the world changes layout, enemies, and environmental conditions every time you fail a run. However, even when you fail, you gain permanent upgrades that help you in future attempts.
Over time, the world becomes more familiar as you learn its patterns while also adapting to its increasing difficulty.
