Best Indie Games September 2026

Welcome to the Into Indie Games list of the best indie games released in September 2026.

Since the start of the year, we have been making lists of the best indie games released in each particular month. Now, it is time for September. Indie games are no longer under the radar, and they have proved their worth, especially in 2025, by absolutely dominating the competition.

So, if you are looking for more indie games to play, there have been plenty of good ones released in 2026. Here, we will provide you with a list of what we think are the best indie games of September 2026.

Disclaimer

This is not a ranking of the games mentioned below. I am not placing them in any particular order, as this is simply a list of indie games that I believe are among the best releases of September 2026. You may have already played some of the games on this list, but that will not be the case for everyone. With that in mind, this list is based entirely on my own experience and knowledge of the indie games released in September 2026. The games featured here are ones that I believe are worth giving a shot, but your experience and preferences may differ.

Best September 2026 Indie Games

The following are the best indie games released in September 2026:

Cosmic Fear

This game takes you on a first-person sci-fi cosmic horror journey built around mystery. The big attraction in this game is that it makes you feel like you are uncovering something you should not. The emphasis on mystery and cosmic scale is another thing that makes this game very different from your other indie horror titles.

In this game, you are not being chased by monsters in haunted buildings. Instead, the game wants you to wonder what happened, what the strange presence is, and what it means. The game is slow-paced, but definitely worth giving a try.

We have a walkthrough for the game ready, so give it a read if you pick it up.

Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault

Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault is one of the best indie games released in september 2026

Moonlighter is already a well-known indie franchise among fans. The original game has this formula: head into dangerous dungeons to get some loot and then come back home and sell it in your shop. Then, improve your equipment along with the town and go deeper into the dungeons for better loot.

However, the sequel is much more ambitious and moves it all into 3D while expanding on the formula. Moreover, this game is a proper action RPG where there are four weapon classes. There is proper combat and proper fights against enemies and bosses.

The game is super fun, especially if you like dungeon crawlers and RPGs. So, if that is something that interests you, give it a shot. Also, check out our walkthrough of the game for assistance.

Lily’s World

lily's world xd walkthrough

Lily’s World is one of the most unique indie games released in September 2026. It is a psychological horror game featuring investigation, retro elements, and puzzle-solving. In this game, you go through the old laptop of Lily, a teenage girl from 2004.

What starts as a normal investigation into a teenager turns into a much larger mystery. That makes you wonder, as you progress, about what happened to Lily and who took her. You dig through her diary, personal files, blog, messages, photos, clues, and her connections.

You have to piece together Lily’s life and reconstruct what happened to her. If this seems like a game for you, we strongly suggest trying it out. We have a complete walkthrough available for the game, so check that out for assistance.

Nocturne

Released on September 22, Nocturne is a pixel-art RPG combining traditional exploration with rhythm-based combat. While this game is an RPG, it has its own identity. You really can’t describe it as just another indie RPG. One of the most standout things about this game is arguably going to be its pixel art.

Other than that, you have plenty of mystery, an emotional story, and a pretty unusual premise. The setting is actually interesting in this game. You arrive in what appears to be a digital version of heaven, expecting to find your deceased relatives. However, something has gone very wrong, and that’s where the mystery intensifies.

If that’s something you would like to play, you won’t regret it. Also, if you pick it up, make sure to check our walkthrough of the game for assistance.

TOEM 2

TOEM 2 is one of the best indie games released in september 2026

TOEM 2 is a cozy adventure game where you travel through a colorful world with your camera, meeting strange characters, exploring different areas, and completing quests for the people you encounter. Now, the camera isn’t there for you to just take pictures of the pretty world.

It is the main mechanic that allows you to interact with the world and solve problems. A big part of the fun in this game comes from exploration and observation. There are going to be times when you don’t know what to do, but upon talking to the locals, looking around the environment, and paying attention to what is happening around you, you can figure out what you need to do.

This game is super fun and relaxing to play, so if you want something to play after a long day, TOEM 2 is going to be it. We have a complete walkthrough available for the game, so make sure to check it out if you need assistance.

Best Non-Indie Games

The following are the non-indie games releasing in September 2026 that are worth giving a shot:

The Blood of Dawnwalker

While Rebel Wolves is a completely independent studio, the game has been published by Bandai Namco. So, had that not been the case, The Blood of Dawnwalker would have been classified as an indie release. That said, it is arguably one of the best games released this year, not only in September 2026.

In this game, you play as Coen, who is human by day and a vampire by night. The combat is actually pretty interesting, with side steps to dodge and well-timed parries to deflect hits, both as a human and as a vampire.

You have been given 30 days to save your family. So, if you fail to manage your time and indulge yourself too much in the open-world activities, your family won’t survive. You actually have to manage your time accordingly, which adds a sense of urgency to the game.

The art style and graphics of this game are also pretty top-notch and show that some industry veterans have worked on it. We have the most optimal route published on how to save your family, so if you are interested in this game, make sure to check that out.

Silent Hill: Townfall

The newest addition to the Silent Hill franchise, Silent Hill: Townfall is a pretty solid game. This game delivers a level of horror that is close to what the Silent Hill 2 remake offered. While the latter is still better, just having the comparison there is impressive.

That said, many players have complained about a particular monster, The Weight, who is an absolute pain to deal with. It is a really annoying monster that tracks you way too fast and forces you to memorize the layout so you can instantly run away.

That said, aside from that, the overall game has been pretty solid. There are three playable characters, but the major emphasis is on Simon. Also, unlike Silent Hill f, there is more emphasis on stealth in this game.

We have the walkthroughs for all of the chapters available, so do give them a read to make your experience better.

Halloween: The Game

If you are a fan of Michael Myers, then you must try out Halloween: The Game. This game is based on John Carpenter’s 1978 movie, and you play in the shoes of Michael Myers. That is, though, just the story mode. There are challenges to complete in each chapter, and you can basically replicate what Michael did in the movie, with some additions.

Other than that, there is a multiplayer mode which you can play with friends. You can either be Michael Myers or one of the heroes. The game is super fun to play with your friends, as there is so much going on. So, if you are thinking of playing a survival horror game with your friends, do give this one a shot.

We have a complete walkthrough available, along with guides on how to complete all the challenges, so do give it a read if you want to play it.

That pretty much wraps up our list of the best indie and some non-indie game releases from September 2026. We hope this list helps you find a game worth playing and, most importantly, that you have an amazing experience with whichever game you choose.
