This Dead Winter is about a fox looking for its lost cub; now on Kickstarter

This Dead Winter has you playing as a fox in a devastating winter, in which you must search for your lost cub. It’s halfway funded already.

This Dead Winter is being made by a solo developer, but you wouldn’t know it if you looked at in action. This adventure is being crafted in Unreal Engine 4 by Manchester, UK-based dev Rob Potter, and it looks nothing short of show-stopping. Have a look at the trailer below:

Here’s how the developer describes the game’s plot:

This Dead Winter is a dark fantasy adventure game, set in ancient woodland gripped by an enduring winter. You’re one of the few remaining animals left, a bright red fox. Your cub mysteriously taken you embark on a journey through the ruins of a lost civilisation and into the heart of an otherworldly forest to get her back.

The Kickstarter campaign for the game is seeking £31,000, of which over £16,000 has already been funded. There’s still some 25 days to go for the campaign to end, so there’s every possibility of the campaign hitting its funding goal.

Should that happen, there’s a host of stretch goals already planned. At £90,000, the game will receive a co-op multiplayer mode, in which you can play with a foxy friend. At £104,000, the game will be ported to the Nintendo Switch. This is the ‘starting point’ for console ports, so higher figures may bring the game to PS4 and Xbox One as well.

What is it with indie devs and foxes? We don’t know, but we’re loving it. Check out Endling, the eco-conscious game about playing as a fox mother. Also have a look at the intro video for Indivisible, which was created by anime creator Studio Trigger.
