Resident Evil Requiem was released just recently, and it has already become the best user-rated game of all time on MetaCritic, tying with last year’s critical darling RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Suffice to say, a lot of players think Capcom really cooked with this one. The game’s word-of-mouth popularity has also got a variety of rumors swirling about, such as how the game ends and whether Leon dies in it.
As it turns out, there are two endings in Resident Evil Requiem, and you get to choose from either of them regardless of how you play the game. If you haven’t hit these endings yet, you may have heard rumors about Leon or other characters. You might even be wondering, “Does Leon die in Resident Evil Requiem?” Keep on reading, because we’ll answer that and more below..

Is Leon dead in the Resident Evil universe?

The short answer is no. Leon is not dead. You may have encountered rumors that Leon dies in Resident Evil Requiem, but it gets a lot more complicated than that. We’ll explain what actually happens.
What happens in the non-canon ending of Resident Evil Requiem?
Elpis is not actually the bad thing that Leon and his team were expecting it to be. It is actually the cure for the T-Virus, so it becomes the key to saving those who are infected.
This means that if you choose to destroy Elpis, there is no saving Leon, Sherry, or those who were infected by the T-Virus and are still alive. This also includes Emily. If you destroy Elpis, it will lead to the bad ending, which is not canon.
When Elpis is destroyed and the platform collapses, Zeno will shoot Leon at point-blank range, killing him. After that, the credits start rolling. This feels like quite a meaningless ending, and it does not even feature a final boss fight. While I do understand the intent behind Leon’s action, simply saving Grace was never what his journey was really about.
Even if he saw himself in Grace, this ending just did not click with me, and what’s more – it did not make sense. That it’s not canon is understandable.
Does Leon die in the canon ending of Resident Evil Requiem?

If you choose to save Elpis, then that means there is now a cure for the T-Virus. Leon, who is on the verge of dying, can now be saved. As you save Elpis, Zeno, who does not know about its true nature, will inject himself with it and lose his powers.
Zeno’s powers only existed because of the virus, so now that he is cured, he loses everything. Following this, Victor Gideon makes his appearance. He survived the fall earlier – which makes sense since he is a zombie at this point. Victor kills Zeno and faces Leon in the final battle.
This ending makes a lot more sense, and I am not even trying to be a Leon fanboy here! Not only is Leon saved, but Victor’s return also makes sense because his death was never confirmed, and plus, we never got a proper boss fight with him. He is one of the key characters in the game, so this ending finally does him justice.
In this ending, not only is Grace saved, but so are Emily and Sherry, along with Leon. The T-Virus has also been cured. Does that mean there will be no more Resident Evil games? Well, not quite. Chris Redfield was mentioned at the end of this game, so maybe the next game will focus on him.
Will there be more Resident Evil Requiem content?

If you can’t get enough of Resident Evil Requiem and want more, there may be some good news for you. A reliable insider, Dusk Golem, who has been right about Resident Evil-related leaks many times, has said that two DLCs for the game are currently in development.
One DLC will focus on Alyssa and Grace’s mother’s story, while the other will focus on what Leon was doing during the events of Resident Evil 7 and 8. Dusk Golem has also stated that development on these DLCs has progressed quite a lot.
However, leaks are leaks, and as this information has not been officially confirmed by Capcom, it is best to take it with a pinch of salt.
