Abandon Ship to release in 2018 on Early Access, new dev Let’s Play out

Well over a year since announcement, Abandon Ship is abandoning 2017. Expect it to bring its FTL and Sunless Sea-esque gameplay to Early Access next year.

Fireblade Software has announced that Abandon Ship won’t be releasing this year after all. Heady winds have steered the game off into the year of untold wonders that is 2018. The game has also been announced for a Steam Early Access release, which will take place in early 2018. Here’s what head honcho Gary Burchell had to say about the early access bit:

“Abandon Ship is a very systems-driven game, which is a fantastic fit for Early Access. We’re really looking forward to getting feedback and balancing the game with our community.”

The team doesn’t want to leave expectant fans hanging for the cold, cold month of December, however. You can check out a 30-minute developer Let’s Play that the team has put out:

If you’re not familiar with Abandon Ship, check out our previous coverage of the game. Long explanation short, it’s got FTL-like crew management on a good ol’ fashioned water-sailing ship. You get to explore an open world like Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, and you take on quests like Sunless Sea. With procedural generation, there is a bit of a roguelike element to it, which is accentuated by the tough, high-wire combat where odds can swing faster than the direction of the wind. Worst comes to worst, of course, you’ll have no choice but to… abandon ship.

Abandon Ship will release sometime in early 2018 on Steam Early Access. You can check out the official website here. Also consider wishlisting the game on Steam so the devs know exactly how much support they’ve got.
