Amanita Design’s quirky comedy Chuchel gets a March release date

Chuchel, which comes from the makers of Samorost, Botanicula and Machinarium, is set to release in March. Here’s a new trailer showing off wacky situations.

Amanita Design’s next crazy-but-beautiful adventure game has a release date! The absurd and furious Chuchel is set to release on 7th March. PC and Mac are the only platforms it will release on for now, but it will be available on a variety of storefronts, including Steam, GOG.com, Humble Store, and Itch.io.

Have a look-see at the release date trailer below:

Amanita Design is the team responsible for such adventure classics as the Samorost series, Botanicula and Machinarium. Chuchel isn’t a far cry from their previous works, but it certainly leans the heaviest towards outright comedy. In the game, you control the hairy, wacky creature that is Chuchel as he seeks to retrieve his precious cherry. You also have a rival, named Kekel, who’s also after said cherry.

Chuchel continues the Amanita trend of stunning artwork, but presents a completely new style that sits right and well next to previous styles. It’s a lot more minimalistic than their previous works, but gosh does it look adorable. Also attractive is the game’s sound, which is being handled by the Czech band DVA, who previously handled the sound design and soundtrack for Botanicula.

If you’ve never played Amanita’s games before, you should check out the free first game in the Samorost series. It’s very old now and requires Flash (eeks), but it’s a good primer on the surreal, yet relatable work of the Czech studio. Then, if you like what you see, you can check out the Amanita Bundle that’s on Steam. It includes all their later works, along with the soundtracks.
