Anodyne 2: Return to Dust aims to sweep you away when it releases in May
28 Jan, 2019
In this sequel to 2013’s indie classic Anodyne, you will explore lo-fi 3D worlds (viva la PS1!) as well as 2D dungeons. It’s coming to PC, Mac, and Linux.
I’ve probably listened to Anodyne’s soundtrack for longer than I actually played the game, but I have no regrets whatsoever. Comfy as a blanket and lonely as a shoegaze record, Anodyne was one of my favourite games of 2013. It never got a whole lot of attention, but it always had a soft spot in my heart. Imagine my surprise when creator Sean Han Tani announced a sequel to the game. It’s even got PS1-style graphics! Lovely.
There’s a new trailer out for the game, which now has a release window set for the month of May. No specific release date right now, but you know, it May appear soon. No regrets.
And here’s what the game’s about, straight from the developers:
Play as Nova, the Nano Cleaner, who is tasked with collecting dangerous Nano Dust growing throughout New Theland, which then must be returned for recycling to a mysterious entity, only known as the “Center”.
Walk or ride across a lush, moody world in full 3D. Discover strange characters and places. Shrink into characters and collect Nano Dust through 2D, Zelda-like gameplay, reminiscent of Anodyne 1.
Discover the true nature of the Nano Dust, Nova, and The Center, in the latest game from Analgesic Productions.
There doesn’t seem to be an official website for Anodyne 2: Return to Dust, but you’ll find the developer’s page here. You’ll also find the game here on Steam and here on Itch.io. If you’d like to have a look at the original Anodyne, have a look at its official website here.
