Automachef is a puzzler that has you programming automated kitchens
01 May, 2019
In the upcoming puzzle game Automachef, you build and program assembly lines for food, all in futuristic restaurant kitchens (that may catch fire).
Automachef appears to be combining the satire and gameplay of Big Pharma with the world of restaurant cooking. In it, your kitchens are devoid of chefs and stovetops. Instead, everything will be done by the conveyor belt and computer. Cooking Simulator? Psh, old-fashioned already, huh?
Here’s the game’s announcement trailer, which was released today:
While plopping machinery and programming computers seems like a fun time in itself (no, really), you will also have to deal with depleting resources and the threat of fire and infestation. It may be the future, but no one said it was going to be easy.
Planned game modes seem to include a campaign mode, a business contract mode, and a sandbox mode where you can really go nuts (or cook said nuts).
Automachef is being developed by Hermes Interactive, which is based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The studio was founded in 2016, and this is its sophomore effort, after 2017’s self-published Winds of Trade.
British publisher Team17 is publishing Automachef. While the veteran company is best known for developing the Worms games, it has also published many indie games of note, such as My Time at Portia, The Escapists 2, and amusingly enough, the co-op cooking game series Overcooked.
Automachef is in development for PC and Switch, but has no firm release date at present. It is expected to come out sometime in the third quarter of 2019. On PC, the game will support mods by way of Steam Workshop.
There doesn’t seem to be an official site for Automachef just yet, but you’ll find the game’s Steam page here.
