Gaming charity SpecialEffect is set to host its “One Special Day” fundraising campaign on October 4th, but you can already contribute to the charity’s efforts by supporting its ongoing Steam sale.
The sale – which is the biggest one yet for SpecialEffect – started on the 16th of September and will be on till the 22nd. You can grab some of the finest indie games on offer there, from Vampire Survivors to Subnautica to No Man’s Sky, and many more.
There will also be a mobile game promotion on One Special Day itself, i.e. on October 4.
A portion of the developer revenue from this sale will be donated to SpecialEffect, which strives to make gaming accessible to physically disabled players. The charity describes its mission as to “optimise inclusion, enjoyment and quality of life by helping people control video games to the best of their abilities for as long as they need us.”

What’s more, for the first time ever, a streamer showcase will also be taking place alongside the Steam sale, where streamers like WeirdFTW, DayWalkerEm, PhoenyxVT, Psyche, and more will play the games that are on sale for the week.
There’s even more ways to support SpecialEffect and its cause. For one, you can buy merchandise from tees and pins to water bottles at the Merch Store. And of course, you can donate to SpecialEffect directly over at JustGiving.
SpecialEffect founder and CEO Dr Mick Donegan explained the currently increasing demand for the charity’s services in a press release: “Our team is facing an ever-increasing demand for all our services – accessibility advice, assessments, the expansion and localisation of resources such as gameaccess.info, our DevKit and our Eye Gaze Games website. The generous support of the games industry in securing the future of these life-transforming, free to access initiatives is hugely appreciated.”
