You might have wondered which game is the highest rated on Steam in 2026 so far. What’s more, you might expect popular choices like Resident Evil Requiem, Pragmata, or Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. While these games are definitely up there in the top rankings, they are not the highest rated ones.
In fact, the highest rated game may not be what many would have thought it to be. So far in 2026, the highest-rated game on Steam is Creature Kitchen, and if you have not heard of it, we do not blame you.
The Highest-Rated Game Of 2026 So Far Is An Honest Surprise

Many players are likely to be surprised, given that the game may not have been on many people’s radar on account of being a self-published indie game.
Niche indie games usually do not have the budget for massive marketing campaigns. However, you can clearly see from the reviews that a good many players have enjoyed the game. At the time of this writing, the game has over 7,000 reviews, although the all-time peak player count is only 553.
That is not unusual, as the player base is divided across months and, of course, across different time zones, meaning not everyone plays at the same time. In addition, the game is relatively short and can be completed in one or two sittings by many players.
Nevertheless, a game that is so niche, yet holds a rating above 96 percent is impressive. What is even more surprising is that it is the only game in the 96 percent category.
There is not a single game that even reaches the 95 percent category, the closest being Pragmata and Resident Evil Requiem in the 94 percent category. For reference, Pragmata is the third best rated game on Steam, and Resident Evil Requiem is fourth—impressive given that both have a large number of reviews, especially the latter.
What Is Creature Kitchen, The Highest Rated Steam Game Of 2026, About?
If you’re wondering what the game is about, it’s basically a creepy yet cozy simulation game where you cook and manage your kitchen. You can experiment with different recipes, create new combinations, and even upgrade your kitchen over time.
This turned into one of my favourite games this year! It’s retro nostalgic with cute cryptids and lovely cooking that I enjoyed thoroughly. It’s perfect in length and the puzzles were fun. I didn’t get any bugs, it runs great, I really recommend if you like creatures and cryptids to pick this up!
