Dead Cells set to release on PS4, Xbox One and Switch later this year
27 Jan, 2018
Spurred by the success of the Early Access roguelike on PC, Dead Cells has been announced for all three leading consoles. Expect it sometime this year.
Developer Motion Twin has announced that its hit indie roguelike Dead Cells will release on consoles later this year. The team is going all out, and expects to deliver the game on PS4 and Xbox One, as well as the Nintendo Switch.
Those of you following the game’s progress on Steam might be wondering when the PC version will release. Polygon got in touch with Motion Twin and learned that the French developer hopes to ‘ideally’ release the PC and console versions simultaneously. Mac and Linux versions of the game will show up sometime this summer, according to the dev.
There’s also a new trailer out, have a look below.
Dead Cells launched in Early Access form in May last year, and has since become something of an indie hit, selling over 600,000 copies. The game has an Overwhelmingly Positive rating from users on Steam, as rated by a whopping 12,223 reviewers (at the time of this writing).
The game is described by the developers as a ‘Roguevania’, which means that it combines a Metroidvania-style gameplay ethic with roguelike mechanics. The game also bears a strong resemblance to the Dark Souls series of games, what with its ‘tough but fair’ difficulty, unique weapon move sets and most importantly, panicked rolling on the ground.
