Deadly Premonition director Swery announces new game The Good Life

Swery’s next game is about a detective who turns into a cat at night. It’s called The Good Life, and it’s taking after Deadly Premonition.

Earlier this year, we heard that Deadly Premonition director Hidetaka “Swery” Suehiro has started a new indie studio called White Owls. Now, the company has announced its debut game: The Good Life. Announced via Fig’s First Look Club mailing list, the game appears to be a mystery adventure set in an English town. The protagonist, Naomi, is a photographer from New York who apparently turns into a cat at nights.

According to Swery, The Good Life will “inherit the spirit of Deadly Premonition”, exciting news if you’re a Swery fan. Swery promises the game will feature “a brand new style of gameplay”, but that it will be set within the trappings of a “daily-life RPG”. The town, Rainy Woods, is described by its residents as “the happiest town in the world”, but it holds mysteries within it that Naomi will have to uncover. Naomi’s feline abilities will come handy as well—certain areas in Rainy Woods can only be explored as a cat, for example.

Apart from the teaser image shared above, White Owls has also released the game’s logo, as seen below.

At the moment, there is no info on when the game will come out, or even what platforms it will release on. More information on The Good Life will be released on 3rd September, which is when the Fig campaign will go live. Even if we don’t know much about the game, Swery did promise in the past that White Owls’ games will be “games that are bizarre, scary, grotesque, and dreamlike, yet also have a strange realism. Games that remind you of the past, that are comical, and sad yet lovable”.
