E3 2018: My Friend Pedro is a shooting ballet… with a sentient banana?

Devolver Digital showed off the elegant My Friend Pedro, in which you make stylish kills because a banana told you so. Coming to PC and Switch in 2019.

Not unlike last year, Devolver Digital had a spoof press conference at E3 today. There were few announcements, but one of the games that made the cut was My Friend Pedro, from the Swedish studio DeadToast Entertainment. It’s murderous, it laughs in the face of physics, and it’s beautifully crazy.

Have a look at the trailer that got revealed today:

If the choice of background music and the twirling motions of our protagonist haven’t made it clear yet, this game is about a literal dance of death. Here’s how the Digital Devolver describes the game:

My Friend Pedro is a violent ballet about friendship, imagination, and one man’s struggle to obliterate anyone in his path at the behest of a sentient banana. The strategic use of split aiming, slow motion, and the ol’ stylish window breach create one sensational action sequence after another in an explosive battle through the violent underworld.

While the hallmark of the game is no doubt its wild dual-aiming, you can also use the cartoonish physics to your advantage to pull of some silly (and fatal) ricochet stunts. You can slow down time to focus on threats—which should allow you to fulfil your Max Payne fantasies. Apart from your standard gunning about, you can also expect motorcycle chases and puzzles to beat.

Also, fear not: there is a gif generator baked into the game itself, so you can show off your elegance and control to your clumsy friends.

My Friend Pedro is expected to release sometime in 2019 for PC and Switch. It’s got a Steam page up over here.

If this sounds right up your alley, consider last year’s Mr. Shifty. For a twin-stick shooter that’s a little more on the kid-friendly side,  check out Sleep Tight.
