Explore a nightmarish Giger-esque world in Scorn, now up on Kickstarter
06 Sep, 2017
A shooter-adventure game in two parts, Scorn is seeking €150,000 to finish the first half of its bio-horror vision. Have a look, if you can stomach it.
Horror adventure Scorn has been in development for two years now, but developer Ebb Software has decided that it’s not quite satisfied with the project so far and has gone to Kickstarter to secure funding to really make it shine. Well, it’s probably not going to shine so much as glisten in biological juices best left unnamed, but that’s just the nature of this exotically ugly yet fascinatingly beautiful beast.
The developers are quiet about the story, if there is one, and are instead playing up the game’s environment. Described as a character unto its own, the non-linear world of Scorn takes organic, biological parts and turns them into machines and architecture. The effect closely resembles the works of the seminal artist H.R. Giger, but looks especially striking thanks to its 3D realisation and sharp detail.
Scorn will release in two parts, and the developers have promised that there will be no DLC, expansions or sequels to the game. The Kickstarter presently only covers the first part, which has been titled “Dasein”. What’s that, you ask? It’s a term from Hegelian philosophy that means ‘existence’, or ‘being’ (as a verb).
Scorn Part 1 of 2: Dasein has an expected release window of October 2018, and will release exclusively on PC for now. The developer has promised a demo version of the game before the Kickstarter wraps up on 10th October. The game is already up on Steam, if you’d like to wishlist it.
