Hypergun is a neon-soaked roguelite about building the ultimate gun
The devs of P.A.M.E.L.A. are making a roguelite about a Frankenstein gun. Hypergun is bright, shiny, fast, and it’s coming out later this year.
When life gives you gun attachments, make gun-a-nade. Or, well, make a Hypergun, which may or may not stick it to your alien foes. NVYVE Studios is developing this abstract and garishly-lit fantasy, and it looks shiny. Have a look at the trailer below to see what I mean:
Strangely enough, the game is a fantasy within a fantasy. You play as Dewey Owens, an intern working for a certain DevTech Labs, and all the shooting and blasting in the game will take place as an in-game simulation. Between runs of the simulation, you’ll also be able to explore your office building. Perhaps there’s more of a story involved than what appears at first glance.
And now, the meat of the game. From what I’ve gathered so far, it can really be described as The Binding of Isaac, but as a first-person shooter, and instead of modifying a naked boy, you’ll be modifying a gun. As you progress through the game’s procedurally generated levels, your gun will get increasingly more convoluted.
The attachments you get may be of questionable help, so you’ll have to learn to make do with what you’ve got. There’s also unlockable classes and abilities to use, so you won’t have to depend entirely on your gun.
There’s no firm release date for Hypergun just yet. The devs have promised, however, that it will release in Summer 2018 for PC and Fall 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One. Check out the official website here, and the Steam page here.
Speaking of roguelike games, Dead Cells will also be releasing later this year. If you prefer to stick to first-person action, do check out the strange and fascinating Atomic Heart.
