Indian mythology-inspired roguelike Asura gets free Vengeance expansion

New items, rooms, mechanics and difficulty features await in the new Vengeance Expansion for Asura. You can even play a game of dice now, and it’s all free.

Procedurally-generated roguelike RPG Asura just got a new lease of life (after dying many, many times, we presume) in the form of the new Vengeance Expansion, which was released on 29th September. The expansion is completely free of charge and made available as an update to the base game, not unlike, say, Path of Exile. Suffice to say, if you own the base game, you already own the expansion.

Vengeance adds a host of new features, including lots of new content like items and rooms. There is a new Chakra system, in which you will gain perks by defeating bosses. The titular ‘Vengeance Mode’ is essentially a survival mode, in which you fight hordes of enemies for a shot at the leaderboards.

There’s also a new difficulty level, titled the Mahasura difficulty (“Mega-Demon”, if my Sanskrit isn’t rusty). In this difficulty mode, enemies and bosses may spawn in any fortress, and your weapon will be destroyed if you get burnt. You can save your Asura at the Shamshan (“crypt”), which is essentially a showcase for your best character runs.

Finally, among the new rooms is one where you can play a dice game called ‘Passa’. Clearly hidden dice rolls deciding your fate in this procedural adventure weren’t enough, so now you have not-so-hidden dice as well.

Asura is now available on PC, Mac and Linux via Steam, GOG.com and Humble Store. For more information on Asura, check out our past coverage on the game.
