Indie Game Releases of the Week: 22nd to 28th June 2020

This week in indie games, we have the surreal RPG Hylics 2, narrative puzzler The Almost Gone, text adventure The Innsmouth Case, and more.

The titles we have featured for this week in indie games are certainly… rather unique affairs. They’ll bend your mind with what’s possible in the indie space, from hilarious FMV acting to a Lovecraftian comedy to whatever the heck Hylics 2 is (it’s an RPG). There’s also cyberpunk rogueliking in Danger Scavenger, and thoughtful puzzle-solving in The Almost Gone.

Danger Scavenger

Danger Scavenger is a roguelike top-down shooter set in a cyberpunk dystopia, where you control anti-corporate rebels named Scavengers as they fight off the hegemony of all-powerful corporations. The game rewards risk with reward, making it as hard as you want it to be. You can also team up with other Scavengers in your scrap-happy combat.

Hylics 2

Hylics 2 is a surreal RPG that’s… quite the sight to behold, with a combination of 3D-scanned clay models and stop-motion animation, all creating a thoroughly bizarre and mesmerisingly unique world.

There’s a plot too, it involves stopping a tyrant’s minions from resurrecting him. Although the game is a sequel to Hylics, you don’t need to play the original to enjoy this one.

The Innsmouth Case

The Innsmouth Case is a text adventure game inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft, and it involves going to the titular fishing village to save a young girl named Tabitha Marsh. The game combines Lovecraftian horror with offbeat humour, all told through an interactive book that has 27 different endings.

General Horse and the Package of Doom

23rd June on PC | Trailer

General Horse and the Package of Doom is an FMV adventure game in which you play as the titular military postman (in space), who must take on an important mission to deliver a package. While doing that, you’ll also have manage your resources, that is your food, fuel, and batteries.

The Almost Gone

The Almost Gone is a point-and-click adventure game that has a young girl exploring the circumstances of her own death. The game involves revealing objects and piecing together clues to learn more about the past. Its story is written by award-winning author Joost Vandecasteele and told across 5 emotionally-charged chapters.
