Indie Game Releases of the Week: 27th January to 2nd February 2020

This week in indie games, we finally see the conclusion to Kentucky Route Zero, alongside chill conversation game Coffee Talk, and more.

January was a mostly slow month for indie games, but it’s going out with one hell of a bang. We have some long-awaited indies finally making it to the finish line, and the “Other Indie Releases” section this week is like a never-ending scroll. Picking 5 was very hard this time around, as we have a ton of original releases happening this week. Be sure to peruse the section for other releases!

Kentucky Route Zero (28th January on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch)

Kentucky Route Zero began its magic realist, episodic journey all the way back in 2013. Now, a little more than 7 years later, we finally have a release date for the conclusion of the game. The game will be appearing on consoles for the first time in the “TV Edition”. Meanwhile, PC players who already own the game will get the final act on the release date (for free).

Journey to the Savage Planet (28th January on PC, PS4, Xbox One)

Journey to the Savage Planet takes you to a wildly colourful alien planet, which you and your friends can explore in co-op. You’ll be finding and cataloguing flora and fauna of the planet, as well as upgrading your equipment and uncovering the mysteries of the planet you’re on. Note that the PC version of the game is exclusive to the Epic Games Store for now.

Coffee Talk (29th January on PC, Mac, Switch; 31st January on PS4, Xbox One)

Coffee Talk is a conversational game in which you play as a barista serving up coffee while hearing your patrons’ problems. Blending fantasy elements with a very chill coffee shop setting, Coffee Talk sounds like a good bet if you want something like VA-11 Hall-A.

Bookbound Brigade (30th January on PC, PS4, Switch)

Bookbound Brigade is a 2D action platformer in which you control an entire party of literary characters working in tandem. The literary-themed adventure stars the likes of Dracula, Sun Wukong, King Arthur, and Nikola Tesla, who will meet NPCs and enemies drawn from classical literature. Learn more about the game in our previous coverage.

Ministry of Broadcast (30th January on PC, Mac)

Ministry of Broadcast is a dystopian platformer inspired by such cinematic platformers as the original Prince of Persia. The player character is forced to participate in a deadly game organised by a totalitarian regime (which is then broadcasted to a more free state on the other side of a wall). Check out our previous coverage for more info.
