Indie Game Releases of the Week: 28th September to 4th October 2020

This week in indie games, we have the narrative thrillers Commander ’85 and Floor 13: Deep State, ports of Warsaw and Orangeblood, and more.

There’s plenty of intrigue to uncover in indie games this week—you’ll snoop on UK citizens and hack into Cold War-era networks, but we also have high-profile ports that will have you fighting through Nazi-occupied Warsaw, exploring a dense city as anime girls, and solving puzzles in a world of shadow puppetry.

Floor 13: Deep State

Floor 13: Deep State is a political narrative game in which you control a clandestine deep state agency in the UK responsible for less-than-honourable operations against citizens. This thriller is a sequel to the 1992 game Floor 13, and has been made by the same team.

Projection: First Light is a puzzle platformer that is also an homage to the art of shadow puppetry. You control protagonist Greta as she explores the world of shadow puppetry and encounters heroes and legends from a variety of cultures known for the art form, including Indonesia, China, Turkey, Greece, and England. The game is presently available on Apple Arcade.

Warsaw

Warsaw is a tactical RPG set in the city of the same name, during its occupation by Nazi forces in World War II. The game requires use of strategy and management both in and out of combat as you control Polish resistance fighters repelling the German occupation of their city. The game is presently available on PC.

Commander ’85

Commander ’85 is an sci-fi thriller adventure in which you control a young boy in the suburbs of Chicago as he is gifted a state-of-the-art ‘Commander 85’ computer. The game’s dynamic storytelling will respond to your interactions with the computer, and before you know it, you’re trying to learn the secrets of Roswell and solve the Cold War.

Orangeblood

Orangeblood is a Japanese-style RPG set in the alternate-universe city of New Koza, starring four female protagonists fighting in a gritty and dense urban landscape. The game is inspired by hip-hop culture of the 1990s, and it features turn-based combat. The game is presently available on PC.
