Indie Game Releases of the Week: 2nd to 8th December 2019
This week in indie games, we have corporate ennui in Mosaic, dragon apocalypse in EarthNight, turn-based tactics in Phoenix Point, and more.
It’s the final month of the year, and we’re seeing the releases of some long-awaited indie releases dropping this week. Tactics legend Julian Gollop is back, for one, and we’re also seeing the sophomore effort from Among The Sleep developer Krillbite Studios. And of course, there’s a lot more in the highlights below.
Phoenix Point (3rd December on PC, Mac)
Phoenix Point comes from the seriously veteran developer Julian Gollop, who has created strategy classics from Rebelstar, Laser Squad, and the original X-COM series. Phoenix Point is, likewise, a turn-based tactics game in which you must protect a future earth from an alien invasion. A lot like X-COM, then.
Tools Up! (3rd December on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch)
Tools Up! is a party co-op game about home renovation. Armed with a blueprint of what you have to achieve and a clock that’s ticking down, you have to get that apartment looking spick and span (as best as you can). Of course, you’ll need your crew on the couch to get this done.
EarthNight (3rd December on PC, Mac, PS4, Switch)
EarthNight is described as a love letter to classic arcade games, and it is 2D platformer set after a ‘dragon apocalypse’, which is a pretty metal thing to type out. Humans have been exiled to space, but Sydney and Stanley are out to change that, by diving in and showing those dragons what for.
Everreach: Project Eden (4th December on PC, Xbox One)
Everreach: Project Eden is a story-driven action RPG in which Nora Harwood, part of the Everreach Security Division, must investigate mysterious events and secure the colonisation of Everreach. Along the way, you will also uncover the mysteries of an ancient civilisation, and of course, engage in lots of fast-paced combat.
Mosaic (5th December on PC, Mac, Linux)
Mosaic is an adventure game in which you play as a megacorporation employee who’s living a monotonous, repetitive, and lonely life. Things seem quite grey and meaningless… until strange things start to happen and change your protagonist’s life.
