Indie Game Releases of the Week: February 15 to 21, 2021

This week in indie games, we have the point-and-click adventure Mutropolis, bakery sim Lemon Cake, shoot ’em up Void Gore, and more.

How’s Valentine’s treating you? If you’re anything like us, you’re probably itching for new games to play. Thankfully, romance hasn’t put indie developers on hold, because we’ve got shooting through hell, farming and running a bakery, messing around with sketchy software from the 80s, exploring abandoned Earth, and playing a melange of arcade genres.

Speed Limit is an arcade action game that constantly and seamlessly switches genres as you play. One moment you’re shooting on a train, another you’ll be in a pseudo-3D dogfight, or racing down a speedway. You’ll also be dying a lot, as the game changes gears whenever you’re about to get comfortable.

Void Gore is a shoot ’em up in which you play as a pilot shooting through the bowels of hell. Why are they doing it? Because there’s money to made killing supernatural evils, and you can use that money to upgrade and in turn, survive more and get a higher score. The game features online leaderboards, where you can compare how much of a ruckus you kicked up in hell.

Mutropolis is a point-and-click adventure in which you play as a future archaeologist exploring the remains of abandoned Earth. Finding the mysterious city of Mutropolis and uncovering the relics of human past sound interesting on their own, but things soon get out-of-hand for protagonist Henry Dijon. His professor is kidnapped and the gods of Ancient Egypt are trying to end humanity, and it’s up to the nerdy detective hero to save the day.

Buddy Simulator 1984 is a horror game in which you explore an artificial-intelligence software that promises to be your best friend. You can talk to your new digital buddy, play games with it, and it will learn and adapt to how you interact with it. Sounds wholesome, doesn’t it? No sinister undertones detected, right? Only one way to find out.
