Indie Game Releases of the Week: February 7 to 13, 2022

This week in indie games, we have the puzzle game Letters – A Written Adventure, action game Sifu, adventure game Another Tomorrow, and more.

We’re looking at the biggest week of the year so far when it comes to indie game releases.

Sure, there’s the headlines-stealing martial arts brawler Sifu, but we’ve also got adventures in ice, adventures with words, adventures in abandoned locations, and deck-building in feudal Japan. If none of that is to your fancy, we’ve also got a dog that can grapple to surfaces. Yeah, thought you’d like that one.

Sifu

February 8 on PC, PS4, PS5

Sifu is an action game in which you play as a young student of Pak-Mei kung fu out for revenge against the murderers of his family. With brutal combat ahead of you, you must use object on hand, as well as careful positioning, to take out your foes. This challenging title comes from Absolver devs Sloclap.

Letters – A Written Adventure

February 9 on PC, Mac, Switch

Letters – A Written Adventure is a narrative-based puzzle adventure about growing up in the 90s and early 2000s. As young Sarah, you will have to solve word-based puzzles to help Sarah navigate life with her friends, both on paper and online. As Sarah grows up, your choices will determine how her life plays out – thought rewriting it is always an option.

Grapple Dog

February 10 on PC, Switch

Grapple Dog is an action-platformer starring Pablo, the Grapple Dog, as he sails with fellow adventurers on a quest to stop an evil robot. You’ll be jumping and swinging plenty in this colorful adventure, but there’s also boat-sailing, gem-collecting, and of course, dog-petting. The game also features accessibility features, so you don’t have to be a platformer pro.

Inua – A Story in Ice and Time

February 10 on PC, Mac, Switch

Inua – A Story in Ice and Time is a point-and-click narrative adventure set in the Canadian Far North. The game’s three main characters are separated by time, but each linked to the disappearance of the Terror, a ship from the Franklin expedition in the 19th century. You’ll explore the stories of modern-day reporter Taïna, young 1950s filmmaker Peter, and Simon, a sailor from the expedition itself.

The game is based on historical facts and comes from the developers of Bury Me, My Love, with the support of Inuit writer Thomassie Mangiok.

Castle Morihisa

February 10 on PC, Switch

Castle Morihisa is a roguelike deckbuilding strategy game set in feudal Japan during the reign of shogun Tokugawa. You play as a spy hired by the shogunate’s inspector Yagyū Munenori, and your mission is to investigate the mysterious happenings around the titular castle. The game’s four classes (monk, samurai, onmyoji, ninja) each play very differently and require unique strategies so that you might overpower your enemies.

Another Tomorrow

February 12 on PC, Mac

Another Tomorrow is a puzzle adventure game with intricate dioramas, first-person exploration, and puzzle solving. You find yourself trapped without memories and equipped with nothing but a camera. You’ll explore abandoned apartments, airfields, temples, and underground facilities as you try to figure out who – and where – you are.
