Indie Game Releases of the Week: July 19 to 25, 2021

This week in indie games, we have the adventure game Last Stop, RPG Cris Tales, actioner Death’s Door, strategy sim Mini Motorways, and more.

The penultimate week of July is bringing in some indie heavy-hitters, with the releases of long-awaited games like the Colombian RPG Cris Tales and British adventure Last Stop.

We’ve also got the next from the Titan Souls devs – an action-adventure game called Death’s Door, the next from the Mini Metro devs – Mini Motorways, and WildSphere’s monochromatic alien-buster Timothy vs the Aliens.

Apart from these, be sure to check out the other original releases below. Our picks? Existensis, Fallen Knight, and Song of Farca.

Cris Tales

Cris Tales is a role-playing game that plays as a love letter to classic Japanese RPGs, and its unique twist is that the game allows your actions to dynamically affect the future, which you can see on the same screen as the present. In the game’s story, Time Mage Crisbell must journey across a dark fairytale world to stop the Time Empress from changing the future of the world.

Death’s Door

We originally mistook the release date of Death’s Door to be June 20, and so we ended up featuring it last month. Oops! Here’s what we wrote about it last time:

Death’s Door is an action-adventure game from the makers of indie classic Titan Souls, in which your job is to reap the souls of the death. Your life as a Crow is turned upside down by a thief who has stolen a soul assigned to you, and who you must chase into a world where creatures live well past their expiry.

The game features sharp combat, a strange world to explore, and colossal tyrants to topple.

Mini Motorways

Mini Motorways is a strategy simulation game about building roads for a growing city. Your goal is to keep the city moving, and you must place and rearrange your motorways to build a traffic network that suits a dynamically changing city. The game features relaxing visuals and a chill soundtrack by Disasterpiece, as well as a GIF export function and daily and weekly challenges.

Last Stop

Last Stop is a third-person adventure game set in modern-day London, where three separate characters have their lives transformed by a supernatural crisis. It comes from the developers of Virginia, and features full voice acting, as well as a soundtrack by BAFTA-winner Lyndon Holland.

Timothy vs the Aliens

July 22 on PC, Switch

Timothy vs the Aliens is an open-world action-adventure game that also includes puzzle-solving and lots of shooting. You play as gangster Timothy, whose black-and-white “Little Fish City” has been invaded by full color aliens. Apart from exploring the city on foot and encountering the characters and secrets, Timothy can also use cars at will and drive around town.
