25 Jul, 2021
This week in indie games, we have the adventure game Omno, soulslike action game Eldest Souls, shooter RPG The Ascent, and more.
This week, we’re going to be real with you. We’re seeing an absurd concentration of quality indie game releases starting tomorrow, and they cover every urge from roleplaying to exploration to action to shooting to mystery-solving, on and on…
We very highly recommend going through the Original Indie Releases section below the featured releases. It’s a terrific week for indies, and you don’t want to miss a minute of it.
Blightbound
July 27 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S
Blightbound is a multiplayer dungeon crawler in which three players of distinct classes take on the fiendish abominations of a dark power known as the Blight. An ever-expanding RPG, Blightbound plans to keep adding new dungeons, new heroes, and new loot.
Blightbound comes from Awesomenauts devs Ronimo Games, and is published by veteran indie publishers Devolver Digital.
The Forgotten City
July 28 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S
The Forgotten City is an adventure game set in a 2000-year-old Roman city stuck in a time loop with a curse: if one sins, everyone dies. You get to choose your character’s gender and origin, after which you must grapple with moral dilemmas, make difficult decisions in the intertwined community, and exploit the time loop to solve the mystery behind the downfall of the city.
The Forgotten City evolved out of a Skyrim mod of the same name, which is the first mod to win an Australian Writers Guild award.
Eldest Souls
July 29 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch
Eldest Souls is a soulslike action game with brutal and fast-paced boss rush combat, in which a lone warrior with a greatsword of pure Obsydian must face off against the Old Gods who threaten to send the world into desolation. Apart from taking down menacing bosses, you will encounter NPCs, solve quest lines, and develop a unique build based on the rewards you earn from combat.
Developed by Fallen Flag Studio, Eldest Souls comes published by United Label, who previously published Röki.
Omno
July 29 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S
Omno is an adventure game of exploration and discovery, in which you will travel across deserts, forests, and tundras while exploring the mysterious lifeforms encountered there.
Omno has been developed by solo developer Jonas Manke, who has been working on the game for 5 years now.
The Ascent
July 29 on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S
The Ascent is an action-shooter RPG set in a cyberpunk world where the corporations that owns everyone (including you) has collapsed, and its ruins have left a catastrophe for you to resolve. The game features both solo and co-op gameplay for up to 4 players, and has you customizing your character with cyber augmentations to improve your abilities.
