02 May, 2021
This week in indie games, we have the papery adventure Papetura, skating game Skate City, visual novel Dull Grey, and more.
It’s May! And that means we’ve got a bunch of indie games that you may be interested in. Our selection this month ranges from action RPG to visual novel to skating to point-and-click adventuring all the way to arcade puzzling.
Which ones are you considering picking up? Let us know below!
Ouroboros Dungeon
May 3 on PC, Mac, Linux
Ouroboros Dungeon is an action RPG inspired by the 90s greats in the genre, presented with a top-down view and featuring an infinite dungeon. As the cursed hero of the game, you must navigate endless chambers and improve your abilities without any level cap holding you back.
Dull Grey
May 5 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, PS Vita
Dull Grey is a visual novel about growing up in a retro-futuristic world, tackling themes of free will and the search of happiness. Among its inspirations are the films of Tarkovsky, the worlds of the Strugatsky brothers, and the works of Dostoevsky.
Skate City
May 6 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch
Skate City is a skating game that’ll take you to real-world skating spots in places across the world. Set to a lo-fi music, you can pull off a variety of tricks and complete the game’s many challenges, or take it easy in the Endless Skate mode. The game also features robust recording tools and extensive, unlockable character customization.
Papetura
May 7 on PC, Mac
Papetura is a point-and-click adventure game crafted entirely out of paper. The dialogue-less story follows Pape and Tura, who must solve puzzles and interact with both their environments and other characters, all to stop the flaming monsters threatening to burn down their world. The game features music by Czech artist Floex, who you might know for composing the soundtrack to Machinarium.
Flowing Lights
May 7 on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch
Flowing Lights is an arcade puzzle shooter, where every encounter against your enemies is a puzzle to be solved. The arcade-inspired gameplay requires much trial-and-error, but failure is a part of the game, and if things don’t go your way, you can restart instantly. Apart from a 4-tier ranking system for each level, the game also features online leaderboards for an added challenge.
