KCD2 Developer, Warhorse Studios Potentially Shifting To Unreal Engine

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Dry Devil

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 was released this year to a positive reception from the fandom as well as the critics. The last report revealed that the game has sold over 3 million copies.

Following its success, developer Warhorse Studios is now firmly in the spotlight. We came across two job postings from the developer today (September 30), revealing that it is working on a new project, possibly using Unreal Engine.

Warhorse Studios is hiring a Senior Technical Animator who has experience working with physics-based animations in Unreal Engine. The developer is also hiring for a Senior Animator to work on a new project.

It is worth noting that Warhorse co-founder, Daniel Vavra, isn’t a fan of Unreal Engine. He previously expressed concerns about the engine, making this job posting extremely surprising.

As mentioned in the image above, Warhorse Studios is hiring a Senior Animator to work on a new project.

We are looking for a passionate, skilled and reliable animator to join our team on amazing new project.

Another thing I would like to point out here is that in another job posting, the developer has also mentioned working to improve the in-house tools. It is worth noting that the Cry Engine isn’t Warhorse’s in-house engine, but it does license it from Crytek. However, the same job listing also requests experience with Unreal Engine, raising questions about the studio’s future direction.

Warhorse Studios Job Posting

As Cry Engine isn’t the studio’s proprietary engine, the job postings strongly suggest that Warhorse is shifting to Unreal Engine.

If the developer is indeed moving to UE, this shows how dominant and widely adopted the engine has become. Despite its flaws, more and more developers are adopting it. Many criticize the engine for all of the performance issues. However, Tim Sweeney, the CEO of Epic Games, recently said that the problem isn’t with the Unreal Engine.

He explained that the developers focus on optimizing the game at the very end. This causes the game to be far less optimized on the older hardware, resulting in controversy.

Will There Be A Kingdom Come: Deliverance 3

Many of you may be wondering whether there will be a Kingdom Come: Deliverance 3. With how successful both games are in the franchise, I don’t see why not. The developer has also previously hinted at it, but the upcoming game remains unannounced.

It is worth noting that the developer has mentioned hiring explicitly for a new project, but did not specify that it is part of an already well-known franchise.

I will be keeping an eye on further details regarding this particular game and see what further can be found.
