Kentucky Route Zero concludes in 2018, heads to Switch, PS4, Xbox One

PC, Mac and Linux gamers need not fear: Kentucky Route Zero will also be wrapping up on computers. Here’s a look at the long-running episodic adventure.

Kentucky Route Zero has been a mainstay on best-of lists for a number of years and it’s not even finished yet. Its first act released back in January 2013, and over the years, three more acts have been released for the magic realist adventure. The latest episode came out in July last year, with no advance warning. The final act, Act V, will release in Early 2018 as the game leaps out from computers and into television sets.

The console versions of the game will be under the moniker Kentucky Route Zero: TV Edition, and you can expect to play the game on Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Developer Cardboard Computer has assured fans that the PC, Mac and Linux versions of the game will also be updated at the same time as the TV Edition’s release, and any new enhancements in the TV Edition will be back-ported to the computer versions.

Furthermore, the game will now be published by indie publisher Annapurna Interactive, who previously published What Remains of Edith Finch and will be publishing Gorogoa in the future.

Kentucky Route Zero follows truck driver Conway, who is travelling in Kentucky to locate an address that he has to make a delivery to. The only way to get to the address, he learns, is to follow the mysterious Route Zero, and so his strange, atmospheric adventure begins.

If you’d like to get to playing the game right away, the first four acts are already out and playable on PC, Mac and Linux. You can get the game over at Steam, GOG.com, itch.io and Humble Store.

Another game you might like if you’re into moody adventure games is To Azimuth. Speaking of episodic point-and-click games that have taken years to wrap up, The Dream Machine‘s final episode came out earlier this year.
