Get horror game Layers of Fear for free on Steam, courtesy Humble Store

Care for some mansion-exploring horror? The short and spooky Layers of Fear is currently free to grab on Humble Store, but only for a limited time.

Modern indie horror game Layers of Fear is up for grabs on Humble Store for a limited time, and you’d better get your shivering hands on it right now if you care for good horror games. As of the time of this writing, the game will only be available for free for another day and five hours. Here’s the store page link.

Note that what you get is a Steam key, so you will require a Steam account to actually activate the game. The game’s playable on PC, Mac and Linux. You even get the game’s soundtrack for free, if you’d like some spooky listens.

Layers of Fear is a horror game set in a Victorian-era mansion that keeps changing as you explore it. You explore the mind of an insane painter and over the course of the game’s story, unravel the mystery behind his madness. It lists ‘psychedelic horror’ as one of its features, which means that every time you move your mouse to look around, the scenery might have changed completely.

Originally released in February last year, Layers of Fear was developed by Polish studio Bloober Team, which was also responsible for this year’s cyberpunk horror adventure Observer. Both Layers of Fear and Observer were published by Aspyr.

Layers of Fear is also available on PS4 and Xbox One, but you can’t beat the price of free, so if you’ve a capable computer and no qualms about horror games, have a go at this one.

For a different take on mansion-exploring horror, have a look at Song of Horror. If you’d rather your horror be open and free, head to The Forest.
