Lethis – Daring Discoverers announced, set to release later this month
01 May, 2017
Triskell Interactive has announced the next game in its Lethis universe, in which one of five unlikely heroes goes on an extraterrestrial exploratory tour.
Games about intrepid explorers in strange and exotic lands might just be one of my favourite rising indie genres. While the AAA world might have its Mass Effect: Andromedas, the little bubble of indie goodness has the likes of The Curious Expedition and Renowned Explorers: International Society. Joining the likes of these is the next game by French developer Triskell Interactive, titled Lethis – Daring Discoverers.
Although it continues exploring the Lethis universe that was originally introduced in Lethis – Path of Progress, Daring Discoverers will radically switch genres. While Path of Progress was a Caesar-inspired city builder, Daring Discoverers seems to owe more to choose-your-own-adventure books.
Five bumbling heroes (and their clones) are available for play, and your role is to explore an alien planet as one of them. The worlds you will explore won’t go easy on you, adding a bit of a roguelike aspect to the gameplay. Among the things you’ll be doing are learning alien languages and finding mysterious artefacts. You can also fill up an encyclopaedia with the flora and fauna you’ve encountered. You’ll have to deposit the gained knowledge back in your capsule, or risk having to start everything over when your character dies.
Lethis – Path of Progress was quite the pleasant game to look at, and Daring Discoverers appears to improve on that quality even more, somehow. There’s a lot that I already love about Daring Discoverers: wordy gameplay, a charming art style and the promise of adventure.

Daring Discoverers is launching, surprisingly, some time later this month. There’s no store pages for it yet, but here’s an official website. The game will only launch on PC via Steam.
