Lingotopia is a language learning game in which you explore a handcrafted city

If you’re looking to learn Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian, or Spanish, Lingotopia might be the city exploration game you were want.

I’m a sucker for technology that aids you in learning languages, and if you’re like me, then Lingotopia looks like it might be right up your alley. This 3D adventure is set in a city that you explore as a shipwreck survivor, but the trick is that you don’t speak the local language. To get back home, you’ll have to get good at speaking the language you have chosen to learn.

You can choose to learn Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian, or Spanish in the game. You can also learn English via one of these languages, if that’s more your thing. These languages support native speaker pronunciations to aid your understand of the language. For languages with non-Roman scripts, such as Arabic, Chinese, or Russian, the game lets you toggle between the original script and a transliteration.

Furthermore, there are 20 ‘unofficial’ languages in the game, which don’t have native speaker pronunciations, and which don’t have verified translations. These include Basque, Polish, Romanian, Norwegian, Portuguese, and more. You’ll even find Westrobothnian in that list.

Have a look at the game’s teaser trailer below:

The game is being developed in Berlin, Germany, by Lingo Ludo. The game is the brainchild of developer Tristan Dahl, who you can find on Twitter here.

Lingotopia is releasing on August 16th, which is the day after tomorrow. It will release on PC, Mac, and Linux. You’ll be able to buy it off Steam or Itch.io. For more information, check out the official website.
