Mirage: Arcane Warfare gets a closed beta and May release date

Magical multiplayer slasher-and-dicer Mirage: Arcane Warfare is releasing in May, but you can play the closed beta right now if you’re willing to pre-order.

Here’s a non-secret. Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is the best known simulation of getting your head mercilessly lopped off by another flesh-and-blood human. Developers Torn Banner Studios aren’t resting on their blood-soaked laurels though: they’re taking things in an arcane direction with the multiplayer blade-stabbing, magic-hurling game Mirage: Arcane Warfare. The game is now close to release, and Torn Banner has announced that it will release on May 23rd.

Torn Banner has a couple other things going with regards to the game. Well, actually, three: there was also Chivalry being available for free for a day, but that just ended, and we’re late and sorry. But if you happen to own Chivalry, you can get Mirage: Arcane Warfare for 10 percent off. Also, if you pre-order Mirage: Arcane Warfare now, you can get playing the closed beta right away. According to the devs, the closed beta will be in place until shortly before the game’s launch.

For now, Mirage: Arcane Warfare features six character classes that vary considerably in play style. There’s 11 environments (mostly Middle-Eastern and Indian themed), 5 game modes, and most enticing of all, a server browser. Oh fine, there’s also a matchmaking system if you’re really that fond of waiting in lines. Have a look at the reasonably violent beta launch trailer to get an idea of how the game looks and plays:

Mirage: Arcane Warfare is presently under development for only the PC and only via Steam. The developers have stated that they’re only focusing on this platform for now, so don’t hold your breath for a Mac or Linux version of the game.

If you’re ready to put down some cash and get into the closed beta, here’s a walkthrough video to explain how the mechanics work:
