Nidhogg 2 stabbing its way to PS4 with new weapons and art style in 2017

Nidhogg 2, the sequel to the 2014 surrealist fencing game Nidhogg, will also be headed to PS4 next year, after being announced for PC and Mac.

Developer Messhof has announced that Nidhogg 2 will also be coming to PS4 when it releases in 2017. The announcement comes by way of a detailed post on the PlayStation blog, which details the game’s new features. It also describes the new art style as ‘gross’, which is something a lot of fans might probably agree with.

In this version of Nidhogg, expect a range of new weapons, such as axes, knives and bows. This certainly takes away from the relatively simplistic sabre-rattling of the original, giving this sequel a unique identity of its own.

The other pillar holding up Nidhogg 2’s unique identity is the game’s new cartoonish (but also, “gross”) art style. The work of artist Toby Dixon, the art of Nidhogg 2 will be chock full of details the developers hope you will keep discovering as you continue playing the game.

Daedelus, the composer of the original Nidhogg, will be back, although he’ll only be composing a couple of new tracks for this one. The rest of the soundtrack will involve artists like Mux Mool, Doseone and other collaborators who will be added to the project as development continues.

Apart from a new trailer to accompany the PS4 announcement, Messhof has also revealed that they will be at Day of the Devs in San Francisco. If you manage to get in, you’ll be able to play a sneak preview of the game.

Nidhogg 2 will release on PC (Windows and Mac) via Steam in 2017. No specific release date has been announced yet, and it has also not been confirmed whether the PS4 version will release simultaneously with the PC version.
