Nintendo Indie World Showcase: Here’s a round-up of all the indies we saw

Nintendo hosted an Indie World Showcase today, with games like Eastward, Risk of Rain 2, Hotline Miami, and even an Xbox Game Studios title.

Nintendo Switch fans have a lot to cheer for, because Nintendo has revealed an impressive slate of indie titles coming to the console in 2019 and beyond. You can watch the roughly 20-minute showcase here on YouTube, but we’ve got all the highlights of the show right here.

Releasing Today: Superhot and Hotline Miami Collection

Before we get to all the games that will have you pining for times to come, here’s a couple you can grab right today. Superhot and Hotline Miami Collection are available to buy on the Nintendo eShop right now. As is implied, Hotline Miami Collection includes both Hotline Miami and Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number, in one convenient, blood-soaked downloadable package.

Risk of Rain 2

Coming from developer Hopoo Games and publisher Gearbox Publishing, Risk of Rain 2 originally released on Steam earlier this year, where it proved to be a smash hit. It’s a multiplayer roguelike currently in Early Access. Although the developer estimated a full launch in 2020, it looks like we’ll be seeing the game quite soon indeed. Look out for Risk of Rain 2 on Nintendo Switch in Summer 2019.

Eastward

Eastward is being developed by Shanghai-based studio Pixpil, and publishing it is Chucklefish (you might know them from Stardew Valley and WarGroove). The game is an adventure-RPG hybrid set in a post-apocalyptic city, and its pixel art style looks absolutely breathtaking. Eastward will be out on Nintendo Switch sometime in 2020.

Freedom Finger

This rather naughty-looking shoot-em-up comes from developer Wide Right Interactive, and it features the voices of several major voice actors (including, yes, Nolan North). You can turn every enemy into a weapon when Freedom Finger comes out in Fall 2019.

Röki

Röki comes from Cambridge, UK-based studio Polygon Treehouse, and it’s a narrative adventure game based on Scandinavian folklore. It looks absolutely charming, a little eerie, and it’ll be coming to the Nintendo Switch in Winter 2019.

Torchlight II

Talk about a blast from the past. Torchlight II from the now no-more Runic Games will be coming to the Switch thanks to the efforts of Panic Button. The game originally came out in 2012, and is a Diablo-style dungeon crawler. It’ll be out on Switch on 3rd September, and you’ll even get a Switch-exclusive pet unicorn.

Skater XL

Skating games have evolved, according to Easy Day Studios, and this you’ll be able to experience that evolution with Skater XL. It’s coming out on Switch sometime in 2020.

Youropa

Youropa comes from Copenhagen-based studio Frecle, and it has you playing as this blobby… thing… that’s solving puzzles in a world where gravity’s gone into the blender. It’s already out on PC via Steam, but this looks like the first time it’s diving onto a console. Youropa will be available on Switch in Winter 2019.

Dungeon Defenders: Awakened

Another dungeoning classic from earlier this decade, Dungeon Defenders: Awakened comes from Chromatic Games and works as a multiplayer cross between tower defence and action RPG combat. Dungeon Defenders: Awakened will launch first on Switch as a timed console exclusive. Expect it in February 2020.

The Touryst

This curious-looking adventure game comes from Shin’en Multimedia (the guys who made Fast RMX), and it has you playing as a tourist in a mysterious, puzzle-and-danger-filled world that looks like it was made in Lego. Except, you know, it’s not actually Lego. It looks a lot like Zelda, maybe with shades of Earthbound thrown in, but still owns its look. The Touryst will launch on Nintendo Switch in November 2019.

Skellboy

Skellboy is an action RPG in which you can swap out your body parts for other body parts. Why settle for a zombie or a skeleton when you can be both at once? It’s coming to Switch on 3rd December. Find out more about the game in our previous coverage of the title.

EarthNight

In EarthNight, dragons have taken over the world, and you play as protagonists Stanley and Sidney as they try to stop the apocalypse. It plays as a platformer with some old-school sensibilities. Expect EarthNight to release sometime in 2019.

Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition

Surprise! Xbox Game Studios’ Ori and the Blind Forest is jumping over to the Switch. It’s not the first Xbox game to make it to the Nintendo platform (Cuphead made it first), but hopefully it won’t be the last one either. As an action-platformer known for its stunning beauty and tough gameplay, Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition will launch on Switch on 27th September.
