Nioh 3 is one of 2026’s most hyped games, as the franchise is pretty well known among the soulslike fandom. Fans of the franchise have been looking forward to a sequel for quite a long time, and the game was finally released just a little while ago.
After release, the game successfully managed to secure nearly 85k concurrent players on Steam, which is a massive achievement. This player count is the highest for any game released by the developer, so Nioh 3 is off to a massive start. The player count isn’t the only thing impressive about this game. Its reviews are also pretty solid.
Nioh 3 Sets A New Concurrent Player Record For The Developer

Just before the release, the game’s hype increased even more, mainly because of the reviews. Critics have praised this game a lot, and it seems like the fandom shares similar thoughts as well.
It is worth noting that this 85k number is the concurrent player count, not the overall total. So, given the region and time zone differences, the overall number could be much bigger.
Another thing to note is that the game was released during the weekend, so it most likely has already secured its peak concurrent player count. That said, what it has achieved so far is already very impressive.
Nioh 3 is not just another “Souls-like”, it is a title that respects the foundation of the genre while building a unique identity upon it.
-TrueGaming
The Nioh series has already garnered immense praise from the fandom, as many believe the games in this franchise are among the best soulslike titles available. Aside from the ones made by FromSoftware, Nioh and Lies of P are often regarded as the best entries in the genre.
Mostly Positive Early User Reviews On Steam

The game did not just release to a massive player count on Steam; it also has a pretty positive rating. Over 80% of the reviews for this game are positive, which shows that the majority of players have been enjoying this game thoroughly. Some fans are even comparing it to Elden Ring and saying that it may be better.
Ok. 16 hours in (including time with demo) and Nioh 3 might be the best action combat game I’ve ever played. Dare I say it, better than Elden Ring? (*ducks*) The systems are deeper, the combat is more fluid. Everything about the game is just “extra”.
-Steam Review
Usually, reviews fluctuate and settle about a week or so after release, so it is still too early to judge the long-term reception. However, it is unlikely that the rating will fall significantly lower.
