October 2019 is looking to be a crazy month for indie game releases

Valfaris, Indivisible, Disco Elysium, John Wick Hex, Afterparty… why can’t I hold all these October indie games? Prepare your wallet.

Sure, there’s a lot of attention on 2020 releases—from Halo Infinite to Final Fantasy VII Remake to Cyberpunk 2077. If you enjoy indie games, though, October 2019 is where it’s at. The next month is going to host the releases of several long-awaited indie games, and we’ve rounded them all up. Read on!

We start with Warsaw, which releases on 2nd October for PC. It’s set in the titular Polish city during World War II, and it plays as a turn-based tactics game. The perspective and style reminds us of the modern classic Darkest Dungeons, and what it shares with that game is a reputation for being challenging. Find out more at the Steam page here.

Then you’ll have Neo Cab, which is already out on Apple Arcade, but will release on PC and Switch on 3rd October. Described as an emotional survival game, this one has you playing as a human driver in an economy where human jobs are dying out. You’ll talk to passengers, manage your star rating, and your humanity all at once.

We move on to John Wick Hex, which comes out on PC and Mac on 8th October. Set in the John Wick universe of films, this one plays as a… fast-paced strategy game? Yes! It also comes from Bithell Games, who you might know for developing indie darlings Thomas Was Alone and Volume. Find out more at the official website here.

On the exact same day, i.e. 8th October, we have the release of Indivisible, which releases on PC, Mac, Linux, PS4, and Xbox One. This one’s a side-scrolling action RPG from the developers of Skullgirls, and it’s being backed by 505 Games, which recently published Bloodstained and Control. Find out more in our previous coverage of the game here.

But we’re not done with 8th October! Also coming out that day is Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch. Series veterans Frozenbyte offer to take you on another adventure, starring the classic trio of heroes against the dark forces of the Nightmare Prince. Find out more here.

Disco Elysium screenshot

Next up, there’s Valfaris on 10th October, releasing on PC and Switch. Look forward to heavy metal-themed action-platforming in a brutal part of space. Find out more about the game here.

Shortly after, you can play Disco Elysium on 15th October, which releases on PC. This one’s a RPG with an emphasis on role-playing, so there’s lots of talking and choice-making to be found.

Afterparty screenshot - October release

Finally, we zoom to the month’s end: Afterparty is releasing on 29th October for PC and Mac. It comes from the team behind the excellent Oxenfree, and it plays similarly, but with a wildly different idea. This time, you play as a pair of best friends out to out-party Satan himself. Find out more in our previous coverage of the game here.
