One Special Day by SpecialEffect: Buy Games for Charity Today

For one day only, some or all of the money you spend on participating games will go to SpecialEffect, a charity dedicated to making video games accessible.

July’s a fine month to buy games. I keep telling people that every year, in the hopes that they’ll buy something for my birthday. Today though, is an especially good day to buy games, because it’s SpecialEffect’s One Special Day. If you buy any of the games participating in the event, part of the money you spend (or even all of it) will go to charity! Remember though, that it’s only for today, 15 July 2016.

Among the participating companies are Green Man Gaming, The Chinese Room, Roll 7, Free Lives and Curve Digital. That’s a lot of terrific games represented, including the excellent Dear Esther, Stikbold, Gods Will Be Watching, Always Sometimes Monsters, Titan Souls and many more. There’s so many different kinds of genres represented, you’re bound to find something you’d like.

I really can’t stop recommending these. Check out the full list at the official website over here.

SpecialEffect is a charity dedicated to making sure people with disabilities can play video games just like everyone else. Among the amazing things they do are making bespoke control systems for people who require them to play games. Ian Livingstone, the co-founder of Games Workshop puts it like this: “Play is natural, fun and rewarding and should be enjoyed by everybody. The incredible work that SpecialEffect does by using technology to modify games devices to give people with disabilities a quality of life they would otherwise miss out on is extraordinary.”

The charity is hoping to raise at least £25,000 from the event, and you get to help them do just that. If you do decide to snag a few games on this One Special Day, be sure to let us know which ones you got.
