Players Appear to Be Cancelling Black Ops 7 Pre-Orders After Beta

Black Ops 7 Featured

This year, Call of Duty faces strong competition from Battlefield 6. EA has managed to attract a massive fanbase this time around, and things are not looking good for the upcoming Black Ops 7. Almost everything is pointing to Battlefield 6 taking the crown this year.

The difference between the two games is clear in their reception. Battlefield 6 received overwhelmingly positive feedback, both after the multiplayer reveal and during beta testing. On the other hand, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 faced major criticism, with most players reacting negatively.

According to a recent report, Battlefield 6 has already attracted over 1.7 million pre-orders. Meanwhile, Call of Duty appears to be struggling. It seems that players are canceling their pre-orders following the disappointing beta.

Black Ops 7 Falls Out of Steam’s Top 100 Best Sellers

Battlefield 6 vs Black Ops 7

When the Battlefield 6 multiplayer trailer was released, it instantly pushed the game to the top of the Steam best-sellers chart. Then, when the beta launched, the game remained the top seller for over 10 days. In fact, it stayed within the top 3 best sellers on Steam for more than 20 days, which is a massive achievement.

As of now, Battlefield 6 is still the best-selling game on Steam, largely because its full release is just a few days away.

On the other hand, the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 beta was recently released and failed to achieve similar success. While it did manage to break into the top 15 on Steam, it never reached the number one spot, and there’s a clear reason why.

To access the Black Ops 7 beta early (October 2 to 5), players needed to either pre-order the game or have an eligible Game Pass subscription. This subscription was only available on PC and Xbox. Naturally, many players who were planning to purchase the game pre-ordered just to get early access. For everyone else, the open beta became available from October 5 to 8.

However, once the early access period ended, I noticed the game dropping rapidly on Steam’s best-seller charts. It fell out of the top 100 and reached the 106th spot almost immediately, which is a major sign of concern.

Steam Sale Is a Factor, But Not a Major One

Yes, a big sale is currently ongoing on Steam, so it’s likely that many players are purchasing other discounted titles, which could explain part of the drop. However, the timing of the decline happening just as the early access period ended feels too convenient to be a coincidence.

Not to mention, the beta has received largely negative impressions. Given this, it seems like many players may have refunded their pre-orders on Steam following their experience with the beta.
