Slay the Spire 2 is a roguelike deckbuilder that was released on 5 March 2026. The game launched with a whopping 574k concurrent players on Steam. This is a massive achievement for an indie game, but it is not that surprising anymore given how dominant indie games were throughout 2025.
That said, it has now been a week since the game was released and it is maintaining almost the same peak player numbers. Not only that, it is still the best seller on Steam. That is now a big achievement because AAA games like Resident Evil Requiem and Marathon were also released recently.
Slay The Spire 2 Is Currently Steam’s Top Seller

This game dominating the Steam best seller chart is actually quite impressive, and the thing is that most of its reviews are positive. If you go to its Steam page, you will see that the reviews for Slay The Spire 2 are overwhelmingly positive, which is something not every game manages to achieve.
Resident Evil Requiem was released on 27 February and there was a lot of anticipation surrounding the game. Other than that, Marathon, a AAA FPS, was released on 5 March. Yet, the top seller on Steam is Slay the Spire 2.
Indie developers have once again shown how their creativity can win over the fandom. Fans are constantly showering this game with praise and calling it a 10 out of 10 experience. This is also being considered a perfect upgrade over the last game in the franchise.
Personally, this is already an upgrade of StS 1 in most aspects. Better animations, better graphics, better events, better variability.
Fan’s Review
Slay the Spire 2 is already better than the first one in my opinion. The content is immense, the coop is a ton of fun, with specific cards just for that mode, there are quality of life features the first one doesn’t have and there are new mechanics and playable characters alongside many unique enemies.
Another Fan’s Review
What is even more impressive is that this game launched in early access, and despite that the reviews are extremely positive.
Hailed As Better Than Slay The Spire

The game has been hailed as better than its prequel, and that is becoming a common opinion among players. If you open the Steam reviews you will see almost everyone praising it. Sure, there are going to be some issues with the game, and that is mainly because it is currently in early access.
The developer intends for the fandom to provide feedback which they will then consider implementing in the game to improve it further. So there is still plenty of room for improvement. The game is currently available only on PC. That is because it is in early access, but it is expected to receive a full release in 2027.
