Spiritfarer gets a wholesome but bittersweet new trailer

Heartfelt management game Spiritfarer is still slated to come out in 2020, but you can check out a new trailer for it right now.

Spiritfarer won my heart when I first saw it at the Xbox Media Briefing in June. While it’s still a ways off for release, the developer has presented a new trailer for the game in anticipation of Gamescom. It’s titled the ‘Gwen Trailer’, named after the deer spirit the trailer is focused on.

Spiritfarer is planned for a 2020 release across PC, Mac, Linux, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch. It will be available on Xbox Game Pass for both PC and console.

Have a look at the new trailer below:

Here’s what the game’s about:

Spiritfarer is a cozy management game about dying. You play Stella, ferrymaster to the deceased, a Spiritfarer. Build a boat to explore the world, then befriend and care for spirits before finally releasing them into the afterlife. Farm, mine, fish, harvest, cook, and craft your way across mystical seas. Join the adventure as Daffodil the cat, in two-player cooperative play. Spend relaxing quality time with your spirit passengers, create lasting memories, and, ultimately, learn how to say goodbye to your cherished friends. What will you leave behind?

The game will be present at Gamescom, which is happening in Cologne later this month. You’ll find the game over at the Microsoft booth, Hall 8.

Spiritfarer is being developed and published by Thunder Lotus Games, which is based in Montreal, Canada. You might know them for having previously developed the action-adventure title Jotun and the metroidvania Sundered.
