Stardew Valley Mac and Linux Release Date Set For 29th July

Farming, rural living and wedding simulator Stardew Valley, which has so far been exclusive to Windows, will be released on Mac and Linux next Friday.

Developer ConcernedApe announced the Mac and Linux versions’ release date on Twitter yesterday. He also added that other features for Stardew Valley, such as such as multiplayer and localisations are in progress. The version 1.1 update will also take a while to appear, by the looks of it. The game is currently available only for Windows, but ports for PlayStation 4, Wii U and Xbox One are scheduled for the final quarter of the year.

In Stardew Valley, you play as a young man or woman who has inherited their grandfather’s farm plot. Starting with next to nothing, you must farm, mine, fish and socialise your way to rescuing Stardew Valley from the corporation-induced ruin that it has become. It’s heavily inspired by Harvest Moon, and keeps up a really eye-pleasing aesthetic made of deliciously smooth pixel art.

The game became a sensation after its original Windows release on 26 February 2016. It currently maintains a 98 percent positive score from users on Steam, and an 89 on critic review aggregator site OpenCritic. I think it might be a good game.

And most interestingly to me, the game is all made by one man, Eric Barone, who goes by the developer pseudonym ConcernedApe. Developing the game took considerable crunch, with Barone working on the game for 10 hours a day, every day of the week. In a post-launch interview, he admitted to working on the game for 15 hours a day after release.

You can get Stardew Valley over at Steam and on Humble Store. Thanks to the wonders of modern technology (and the generosity of PC digital distribution services), you will get the Mac and Linux versions of the game when they come out, even if you buy the game now.
