Subnautica to release later this month with a livestreamed launch party

 

After years of development, Subnautica is set to emerge out of Early Access later this month alongside an aquarium party, and you’re (virtually) invited.

Subnautica is finally releasing on 23rd January, developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment has confirmed. The game has been available in Early Access form on Steam since December 2014, and the last we heard, it also made it way to the Xbox One Game Preview program in May 2016.

According to the game’s official development roadmap on Trello, the upcoming release will only be for the Steam version of the game. The Xbox One version will remain in Game Preview until the final version is ready.

Interestingly, the game’s launch will be accompanied by a launch party that will take place at a rather aquatic location: the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The party will also be livestreamed on Unknown Worlds’ website. When it goes live in 10 days, you can watch it here. The party will involve the premiere of a cinematic trailer for the game, as well as the official pushing of the official big red launch button that will officially release the game. It’s quite official. There will also be interviews with the developers, and sea creatures that are unfortunately not from an alien planet.

Subnautica is a first-person game of exploration and survival in an otherworldly ocean, where you meet plenty of strange sea creatures. Here’s the official blurb.
