Sunless Skies’ next update has a hoardsome bat; also, you can honk now

Months after release, Sunless Skies finally lets you sound a horn on your flying locomotive. Plus, details on the coming Hoarder update.

It’s been a long time coming, but Failbetter Games has finally acceded to fan demands and added a horn button to Sunless Skies. The newest update for Sunless Skies is out, and it allows you honk your locomotive by pressing the X key on your keyboard.

Apart from this much-requested feature, there’s also other improvements to be seen:

Several creatures and locomotives have gained new attacks, improved AI, or visual updates, and there’s now more variety for encounters in Eleutheria, bringing it up to the standards of the game’s other regions.

Failbetter Games has also let drop news on the next major update for the game, which has been baptised as the Hoarder Update. Its named for the recruitable officer that will be included. Said officer, by the way, is a “peddlar of immortality”, and has also been rumoured to be a Master of old London. Also, it’s a bat. The Chiropterous Hoarder is a bat. You can recruit a bat as an officer.

Sunless Skies Hoarder Update

The Hoarder’s quest will have you searching for a way to prolong life, but there’s almost certainly more to it than that. Almost certainly something macabre, and oh-so-gothic.

But that’s not all. The Hoarder Update will also include engine upgrades, which will (finally) let you travel faster. It won’t come without a cost though—apart from needing a crew big enough to man the upgraded engine, you will also be draining fuel faster.

Finally, the third major feature of the update is the opportunity to construct an additional transit relay, letting you travel directly between two otherwise unconnected regions.
