Gone Home dev’s Tacoma to release in August on PC and Xbox One
12 Jun, 2017
Fullbright has announced that its next game about exploring places and learning about people, Tacoma, will release in August. Find out what it’s all about.
Okay, look, here’s the short version. It’s Gone Home, but in space. There, saved you a lot of reading. Or did I? Perhaps there’s a lot more to Tacoma than meets the eye, and it seems that we’ll find out just what it is on August 2nd this year. As for platforms, the game has been confirmed for PC, Mac, Linux and Xbox One. Poor PS4 appears to be getting the snub, but that’s not entirely surprising given that the game was featured prominently in Microsoft’s Xbox Briefing yesterday.
So what is the game about really? Here’s how developer Fullbright describes it.
Tacoma is a narrative adventure set aboard a high-tech space station in the year 2088. As you go about your mission, you’ll explore every detail of how the station’s crew lived and worked, finding the clues that add up to a gripping story of trust, fear, and resolve in the face of disaster.
While Gone Home had you mostly reading stuff and inferring the story from objects strewn about, Tacoma uses a sci-fi device to fling its story at you. The ship our intrepid protagonist is on happens to have a 3D surveillance system that the player can rewind and fast-forward at will. And, well, yes, there’s stuff to read and objects strewn about. Can’t rightly get rid of those, now can we?
Here’s the brief trailer that was shown at Microsoft’s E3 conference.
Tacoma is already available for pre-order over at Steam, GOG.com and Microsoft Store (for Xbox One). On Steam and GOG.com, the game is currently available at 10 percent off, but the offer will expire when the game releases.
