All-Boss Action Game Furi Gets a July Release Date
26 Jun, 2016
Battle bosses designed by the creator of Afro Samurai in stabby-shooty action game Furi when it releases for PC and PS4 on July 5th.
Furi is one of those games that can be described as being really simple to get the hang of, but really hard to master. You have a sword you can swing (and use to stab), a gun to shoot with and the ability to dodge and parry. You can charge your slash, gun and dodge, and that’s about it. That’s the bare minimum you need to know as you embark on the path to getting good (or as the Dark Souls community would have me say, ‘gitting gud’).
There are no grunts to waste your strength on: Furi throws boss after boss at you. The gameplay trailer shown below shows one such demanding boss. You can see our white-haired protagonist dodge through her attacks and cleverly using the environment to avoid getting hit. When the moment is right, he attacks with his sword (which is a katana, obviously).
The action looks incredibly hectic and engaging, with speed being a critical factor here. The Game Bakers are not blind to the speed of their game, of course, and have paid special attention to making the game feel extremely reactive.
The game has no shortage of famous names behind it. Each of the bosses you’ll face in the game have been designed by the creator of Afro Samurai, Takashi Okazaki. The soundtrack has a number of famous electro musicians on it, including Scattle, Carpenter Brut, The Toxic Avenger and Lorn. The choice of going with electronic music seems particularly apt for a game that’s all about split-second combat and speedy movement, as I’m sure any Hotline Miami player would agree.
Furi (official website) will be available on July 5th, on Steam and PS4. You can get it for $25 or €25.
