Indie Game Releases of the Week: January 25 to 31, 2021

This week in indie games, we have the stealth action-RPG Disjunction, action platformer Cyber Shadow, adventures Encodya and Tohu, and more.

The first month of 2021 comes to a close, and indie games aren’t holding back this week. We’re seeing several long-awaited, multi-platform indie releases coming up this week, ranging from action to puzzles to RPGs. Cyber Shadow

January 26 on PC, Mac, Linux, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch

Cyber Shadow is an action-platformer done in retro, 8-bit style. It features a setting full of ninjas, robots, and a very cyber story about a world taken over by a synthetic army, and the sole survivor of a ninja clan who must find out how this ruin came to be. The game features intense and stylish combat as you dash and slice through Mekacity as a cyber ninja and take down Dr Progen.

Encodya

January 26 on PC, Mac, Linux

Encodya is a point-and-click adventure game where you control a nine-year-old orphan in the cyberpunk city of Neo-Berlin, where corporations rule. With the assistance of the burly robot companion SAM-53, protagonist Tina must explore the world, solve puzzles, and see through the quest her father left behind for her – to save the world from grayness.

Sword of the Necromancer

January 28 on PC, Linux, PS4, Xbox One, Switch (Backwards compatible on PS5, Xbox Series X/S)

Sword of the Necromancer is a dungeon crawler action-RPG with roguelike elements, in which a heroic rogue named Tama must fight to find a way to resurrect the priestess Koko. Using the titular sword, you can turn your foes into allies, and keep fighting even after you die. Reaching Tama’s objective will mean plowing through enemies and leveling up to become stronger as he goes.

Olija

January 28 on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch (Backwards compatible on PS5, Xbox Series X/S)

Olija is a side-scrolling action-adventure game in which you control a castaway named Faraday, who finds himself in the hostile country of Terraphage. This swashbuckling adventure is inspired by classic cinematic adventure games, and has you exploring Terraphage, meeting the mysterious woman named Olija, and using a legendary harpoon.

Tohu

January 28 on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch (Backwards compatible on PS5, Xbox Series X/S)

Tohu is a point-and-click adventure game with intricate puzzles and lushly-illustrated visuals, in which you control a little girl and her alter-ego, Cubus. The game is set on whimsical fish planets, and its puzzles will have you switching back and forth between The Girl and her alternate form, Cubus. As you explore the world(s), you will uncover the truth of the little girl in your journey to repair the Sacred Engine.

Disjunction

January 28 on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch (Backwards compatible on PS5, Xbox Series X/S)

Disjunction is a stealth-action RPG set in a cyberpunk future New York, where the death of a community leader has thrown the city into unrest. You will witness the intersecting stories of three characters as they uncover a conspiracy threatening the city itself. The gameplay lets you play stealthily or with blazing action, as you see fit. You’ll also be able to augment your characters’ abilities, and make choices that will have rippling consequences in the story.
