A Hat in Time celebrates imminent release with speedrunning contest

If you’re a backer of 3D platformer A Hat in Time, you might finally get to put your speedy hat-stitching skills to the test with this speedrunning event.

A Hat in Time’s developer Gears for Breakfast is taken extra-special care of all the speedrunners in the game’s fan community, evident by its announcement of the game’s first-ever speedrunning event. While the game itself is scheduled to release on 5th October, the speedrunning event is going on right now and will end on 30th September.

To play the game, you’ll need to be a backer or a slacker backer of the game. That way, you will have access to the super-special build of the game that includes a speedrunning timer. You’ll also have to record your run and have an account over at Speedrun.com, which is hosting the leaderboard for the event. If you’re interested in the event, check out the rules and details over at the official Twitch page.

So what do you get out of all this? For one, everyone who submits a run for the event will get a special hat with their time on it. If you fall within the top 5, you will get an even more special gold clock version of the hat. Furthermore, fans following anyone from the top 5 on Twitch will stand a chance to win a copy of A Hat in Time.

As of this writing, the event is about a day old and it’s already got impressive times of under 3 minutes and 44 seconds. You’ve got about two weeks to take that crown, or fight your way into the melee that is the top 5. Good luck!
