Rogue Star Rescue – Bullet hell, tower defense blend releasing February 4

Rogue Star Rescue is a unique mix of bullet hell and tower defense gameplay that’s coming out of Steam Early Access on February 4th.

Blasting baddies and saving the day brings an undeniable thrill! But how about enhancing the adrenaline-generating experience with decision-making? That’s how Rogue Star Rescue adds a whole new twist to bullet-hell shooters.

A match made in galactic heaven

Rogue Star Rescue is a twin-stick shooter that smoothly combines the all-out insanity of bullet hell with tactical decision-making. Each level in RSR is split into two phases: the Exploration phase and the Defense phase. During the exploration phase, you blast through enemies in randomly generated rooms to earn coins, guns, passive items, synergies, and traps. When you arrive at the defense room, you should strategically position your traps to fight the oncoming enemy assault and protect the defense goals from destruction. The more resourceful you are, the better your chances of winning.

No matter how much experience you have with shooters, you’ll dig Rogue Star Rescue. Choose among easy, normal, and hard modes to increase your chances of progressing further in the story. Speaking of which…

The story

The non-linear plot is another unique thing about Rogue Star Rescue. While most games lead you linearly through levels, in RSR you choose which planets to visit to determine the fate of the galaxy… No pressure.

A massive rogue star is en route to collide with our universe. Your mission is to prevent this galactic apocalypse. Will your home be destroyed? Enslaved? Or deleted by an all-powerful AI? There are 32 endings, and you can end up spending months exploring the multiple intricacies and outcomes.

Online Co-op: a rarity for roguelites

Better yet, you can explore the gaming galaxy with up to 4 friends online and unlock the secrets of the galaxy as a team!

Having a friend over? Team up with them the old fashioned way. We listened to community feedback and added a local co-op mode for 2 players as well. No internet connection required.

Good old pixels

Stylistically we’re breaking away from traditional dark-dungeony themes by making bright and accessible retro-style graphics. Do you remember the first time you played Sonic the Hedgehog? We’re incorporating that feeling of visual splendor and wonder. It’s much more refreshing than crawling around in the same old dank dungeons.

Bumpin’ Tunes

The audio component is crucial for a great gaming experience. For Rogue Star Rescue, we’ve sculpted an expansive Original Soundtrack. Each planet has its own theme that adds to an immersive experience. Turn on your speakers and enjoy bumpin’ chiptunes.

Features

Permadeath, random level generation and fast action mechanics are just a few features that make Rogue Star Rescue frustratingly enjoyable. Our main design focus was to keep the game fun and challenging even after dozens of hours of playtime. Now, after 2.5 years of development, RSR has a huge amount of content that can easily keep you entertained for months.
